Rona Israel Kolatt

Rona is a professional art music singer and teacher of vocal arts. In her MA thesis at HUJI she showed that pitch accuracy in singing is enhanced when singers are presented with a live singing model as compared to live piano playing. This effect was especially prominent in out-of-tune singers. In her Ph.D. dissertation she explores the differences between production of “analogue” and “digital – ”stylized Non-verbal vocal expressions such as the “Vibrazione” (which serves music as a means of expressivity and as a technical tool for achieving vocal mastery), characterized by gradual increase and decrease of volume on implicit semi-tone pitch glides and a stepwise -explicit version of this gesture. She hypothesizes that accuracy in terms of the overall pitch and intensity contours will be higher in the holistic analogue vocal gesture condition.
